Cafe IDlish: I was overjoyed to know that my favourite South Indian cafe has opened its doors for dine-in, after the lockdown.
FOOD:
* Kara Podi Mini Idli: Idli is my all-time favourite breakfast and something that I can practically live on. Mini idlis tossed in kara podi made it so flavourful that I kept craving for more. The piping hot sambar made it dish wholesome.
* Dalwada: This is ideally the last thing I would order. But our host recommended it strongly and I gave it a go. It was crisp from the outside and soft and steaming hot on the inside. They chutneys served alongside were a game-changer. Definitely changed my perspective towards Dalwada.
* Iddiyapam with Malabari Veg Kurma: Now, we're talking about some serious authentic food here. So call it ignorance or sheer bad luck, but I had NEVER tried this before. What looked like boiled thin Chinese noodles to me, are actually freshly made rice noodles, which originated ages back in the southern part of India. Served alongside was Malabari Kurma with coconut & tomato-based mixed ved curry. The combination was a perfect balance of flavours and it must be consumed hot. Must-Try
* Tex Mex Cheese Lava Dosa: After a series of typical Tamilian dishes, I moved to the fusion side of the menu. Their Dosa Taco and Pizza Uttapam was outstanding the last time I had tried, so this time round I choose the Cheese Lava Dosa with a Mexican twist. This reminded me of Gini dosa to some extent and I ate it till the last drop of cheese on my plate.
* Potato Masala Paniyaram: Paniyaram stuffed with Potato Bhaji is like having fist-sized Masala Dosa. All those potato lovers can't miss this one.
* Pineapple Sheera: Perfect way to end my meal. My sweet tooth wouldn't allow me to leave the restaurant without the popular Pineapple Sheera. And it was perfect. The sweetness was just right and the goodness of ghee gave it Ghar ka Swaad.
Filter Kaapi: The highlight of my meal: Okay, so you should know, I'm not a coffee person; especially strong coffee is not what I do, like never!
So I ordered this purely because the host recommended and how glad am I, that I did. Even before the coffee arrived, it's aroma announced its arrival. The flavour hit my taste buds like never before. It was so good, I might end up visiting the cafe especially for the Kappi
It's official, I'm spoilt for life.
SERVICE: What I love the most about this place (apart from food of course) is the warmth of the host. So humble, courteous and friendly. Recommendations are always on point! And gives homely feels;
SANITIZATION: Utmost care of sanitization is taken. Sanitizer & handwash are available and cleanliness is up to the mark.
NUTSHELL REVIEW:There was a time when I'd drive down all the way to Matunga for authentic South Indian food. Fortunately, now I won't need to & neither should you
