The upmarket suburb of Mumbai - Powai is creating history by welcoming top-notch restaurants and cafes that not only soul satiating but mind-boggling too. One place that's definitely for the vegetarians, by the vegetarians and of the vegetarians is Sandoitchi. Sandoitchi is a Japanese name where San stands for "respect" and Doitchi means "Sandwich". The apotheosis of bread is all that you can see and feel here.
Sandoitchi is a vegetarian nirvana with love for vegan & Jain food as well. As you step in, the place invariably shows you bright light, sun-kissed cold walls with frames and positive vibes follow suites. The next eye catchy thing is the open kitchen that runs on the mill with in-house bread in the making. Yes, every cuisine that you eat here is from their own kitchen and nothing is outsourced. With two floorings, there is ample space to choose for desired seatings and is privacy guaranteed. There is a community table, there are private dining and special place for families too. The upholstered shining wooden furniture gives you a vintage feel and makes dining comfortable.
Coming to the food, Sandoitchi recently revamped their entire menu and the new cuisines are tasty and worth drooling over. There are only veg and no alcohol. They also introduced Bottomless drinks where you pay once and refill as many times as you can.
We started with Mumbai Style Three Bean Salad consisting of 3 types of beans mixed with cajun spiced charred American corn topped with sour cream. Next in the queue was Paneer Sambal signature doitchi where honey sesame bread is stuffed with cottage cheese tossed in Indonesian style Sambal paste, layered with coleslaw served with house salad and crispy seasoned Lotus stem. From Pizzettas, you can either choose Margherita or Bulb & Shrooms with multiple add-ons of your choice. The pizzas are thin crust and not at all heavy. There is Creamy Pasta with options of Penne, Spaghetti and Rigatoni from which we had Aglio Olio - a very old traditional spaghetti pasta made up of garlic Italian basil, chilli flakes & Grana Padano cheese.
To gush those nosh down, we had Rich Probiotic - a healthy super juice with apple juice, racket, leaves and chia seeds blended with ginger. Next was Hezpress IT thick shake with double shots espresso, hazelnut and vanilla. We even binged on Icy Mocha and Coffee Tonic.
Desserts are Bae and we experienced similar feelings here. Pizzokie was fresh and crisp with baked chocolate chip cookie topped with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. We ended with Parfait, a thick dessert layered with hung curd, mascarpone cheese, honey glazed assorted berries & healthy granola topped with berry compote.
Everything is picture perfect at Sandoitchi and to be honest, its a great place to take your entire gang here for a great time. So explore this place, stay happy and have the best time of your life.
