Let's Take A Wok To Shizusan, A New South East Asian Eatery That Will Steal Your Heart

The makers of 212 All Good have brought something new to the table, yet again. An Asian eatery, Shizusan, that is done up so well, it will make you want to shift to the Orient, take up sushi as a cause, and dim sums, as a religion.

What’s This About?

This roomy two-floor restaurant emulates a shophouse, a structure commonly found in corners of China. The ground floor opens with a community sushi bar, the watering hole of the space. Here, anyone can sit, grab a plate of their sushi rolls and head back to work.

The second storey here tells a more casual tale, with high ceilings, large windows to let in light and a larger seating space. The interiors take inspiration in the little things – the weaves of Bali, or the postcard frames on the wall. What we love are the watercolours on the ceilings and paint-dipped chrysanthemums on the walls.

Big On Flavours, Small On Fluff

There are some places where fluff is great, like in your hair, candy floss or high school mid-term paper. But we’d like our food to be wholesome and real, thank you very much. Shizusan and its chef Paul Kinny hold this philosophy very dear, and serve filling, flavoursome and well-portioned food. Food here is also not complicated or time-consuming; everything will be served to you within five-10 minutes of ordering.{hurrah for the impatient ones}.

For a fancy restaurant, it will be not exorbitant, and an average meal will cost INR 2,500 including two cocktails, one sushi platter/ dim sum basket plus one bao/ Asian tapas, two meal bowls and one dessert.

Chow Down

You can expect to be served food from several countries and regions in South East Asia – Japan, China, Korea, Vietnam, Thailand, and Philippines among a few. You’ll find dishes you will find in an authentic local kitchen on a street in Vietnam or a corner in Beijing – sashimi, nigiri and maki sushi, baos, dim sums, rice bowls, satays,Taiwanese miso milk bowls, Korean fried chicken wings, stir fried vegetables, and a whole lot more.

Vegetarians, you are in good care here because the avocado sriracha blush maki roll {with cream cheese, avocado, jalapenos, and cucumber} and the crystal vegetable dim sum we tried were simply to die for. Dessert includes a five spice crème brulee and a Kaya toast from Singapore.

Slurp On

Classic cocktails with an element of Asian including Oolong or butterfly pea flowers in it shall be on the menu. We had a beautiful whisky bourbon drink with a hint of tamarind, and smoked amaretto poured into it. 3pm-7pm is their version of happy hours with a each drink having a complimentary Asian tapas with it.

The chef said that when we visit Shizusan, the food should become a happy memory; and that the at the end of the day, the only thing that really matters is food. Touché.
