Southeast Asian cuisines connect the culinary links of Asia and the Indian subcontinent and form a great food culture. It is this richness of tradition that makes it easy to taste cuisines of different geographies in your country. There is a place with similar thoughts that takes you to Vietnam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Thailand and Malaysia all in one go without any visa. Let me tell you more.
Busago has nine outlets in Mumbai and is recognised as a cult destination for Southeast Asian cuisines. We recently explored the quaint Pali Hill outlet that nestles amidst giant players and is all day dining. The restaurant is divided into two sections:- al fresco and indoors. Indoor seatings are for intimate conversations while the al fresco arrangements are for never-ending talks. The ambience is decked up with hue of gold and wooden furniture (chairs make noise while sliding). There are paintings on the walls and instructions on how to make your bowl of Kaukswe. The look, feel and design of all their outlets across Mumbai is the same.
Traditional Southeast Asian recipes are a blend of the complex flavours derived from Indian herbs and spices. Food can be sweet, sour, salty, spicy and bitter all in the same plate. When they say crispy, it means crispy. Busago has a well-organised menu that serves to the vegetarians as well the non-vegetarians. They have some refreshing beverages as well.
We started with Coconut Nimbu Paani made up of fresh coconut water, lemon and honey. Nothing can beat this organic refreshing drink. Next on our plate was Crispy Potatoes, crunchy to the core with fresh ingredients & spices tossed together. Without thinking twice, we ordered juicy Chicken Momos filled with chicken and veggies best served with chips chilli sauce. The Prawns Khow Suey intrigued us with the condiments and truly authentic. It burst with flavours and a good one. If you are left with some space, then do try the Chicken Sesame Teriyaki rice with honey, soy and garlic.
After filling to the brim, the only thing you can try is the dessert. The Flourless Chocolate Cake though looked soft and melting in your mouth types, it missed the flavour and can be better.
Busago doesn't simply add to the many restaurants in Bandra. They are unique in hospitality, extraordinary in quality and value for money. So if you are craving for Asian food and lacking options, now you know where you should head to.
