With the growing fad around South Indian food for meals other than just breakfast, it is only fair that the suburbs start seeing an influx of South Indian fare serving joints, both new and branches of renowned names in town.
A humble looking restaurant on the outside with glass doors that open into a huge three floored space including an air-conditioned rooftop and serving delicious authentic South Indian fare is the best way I can describe Vanakkam Cafe to you.
Absolutely unexpected, but the food at Vanakkam Cafe definitely teleported my tastebuds to the roots of South Indian cuisine.
I'd recommend you begin your journey with one of their many idli options. I recommend the Lava Idli and Gadbad Idli; they were both so unique and unusually tasty. Moving to the dosas, I'd recommend the Davanagere Benne Dosa (for the giant dollop of white butter that is smothered over it) and Hyderabadi Upma Dosa.
They serve a variety of main-course items, however, for those with an appetite to try out multiple delicacies, I'd recommend the Regular/Mini Thali that presents itself to you with multiple options to gorge on.
Apart from idlis, dosas and the thali, they also serve vadai, uttapams and a variety of main course items that you can pick from.
Did I mention that they serve 4 chutneys as opposed as 2 or 3 that their competitors serve? They have coconut, peanut, tomato and pineapple mint chutneys to pick from, and my favourite was their pineapple mint chutney, hands down.
What I really enjoyed about the cafe apart from their authentic food (their ingredients are sourced from the South too), was their impeccable service and how effectively they managed everything even though they're only a few days old.
End your experience on an all-time high with their Filter Kaapi, I am sure it will make you fall in love with coffee.
