What Makes It Awesome?

Every now and then, we come across a news item that says an Irani restaurant is getting replaced with a fast food chain, and all we think is, “Where can I have Dhansak or Patra Ni Machi now?” Fortunately, Roshan Bakery & Restaurant that opened recently in Dongri proved to be a disrupter, as it is the newest Irani joint in the city that serves everything from traditional Parsi cuisine to Mughlai, Chinese, Tandoor, and Kepsa.

Let’s start with the décor – resembling older Parsi establishments, the space has high ceilings, an upstairs seating area, wooden old-charm seating, super clean corners {we always notice}, and a special takeaway counter that stocks everything – from baked goodies like biscotti to oat cookies, bread, chicken white sauce pattice, biscuits to even macaroons and freshly made pastries. You’ll also find all sorts of drinks, the legendary raspberry soda and Parsi tea {which you must-try!}.

When it comes to food, there is the best we’ve had so far. Starting off with Patra Ni Machi {secret recipe chutney made by Shapur Meherbani’s mom’s, that’s superb}, tamatar par edu {egg preparation with tomatoes}, Nalli Burra lazeez kebab and seekh kebab, we were in seventh heaven. The meat was cooked beautifully and fell off the bone, some melting in the mouth. The chutney and gravy were nothing like we’ve tasted so far.

The main course can range from behemoth portions of kepsa rice, salli boti with brown rice, dhansak, kheema or even their biryani. End it with some delicious rabdi made by Shapur and some Irani chai with a wedge of lemon.

There’s more to Parsi food than Akuri and custard, so we recommend you listen to the owner and let him guide you through the food.

With signature creations, daily specials, and a takeaway counter for freshly baked goods, we know that we’ll always be in for a treat here, and the tradition of Sunday lunches with authentic fare still remains a reality.

A meal for two will cost you between INR 600 – INR 800.

How Much Did It Cost?

INR 500 - INR 1,000
