The movie game in Mumbai has upped to a whole new level as PVR Kurla opens a new 4DX theatre.

What Is It?

Post the century of silent films, 2D cinema, and even 3D films, a full fledged 4DX theatre has just opened its pluffy doors in the PVR at Phoenix Marketcity. While some of us may have seen films in the 4D format earlier, they have mostly been short films only 10-15 minutes long, giving just a glimpse to the experience.

In this theatre, full-feature Hollywood films which have been made in this format will be showcase, just like any other movie – but not quite.

Unlike 3D where there is an visual effect attached – here, there is use of atmospherics in the theatre to engage all five senses. From motion seats that move and rattle {depending on the scene}, water effects, bursts of cool air, bubbles created and even other effects such as the use of fog, wind and strobe lighting, the aim is to create a setting for the audience that goes beyond the audio-visual. There will be both 2D and 3D movies which can be shown in the 4DX format.

At the present moment, the two movies that are being screened are the they’re showing Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 and Alien Covenant. You can keep checking for updates on newer movies here.
