Social Responsibility Forum (SRF), NMIMS is a student initiative making efforts, taking small steps and hoping that they culminate into a big change, a change in the mind-set and the mentality of the society as a whole. We strive to make people realise that each one of them can help someone, can inspire someone and progress towards making this world a better place to live. The club has always believed that change does not take place overnight, instead we, as a team need to work towards it passionately and fervidly. Not all of us can do great things, but we can do small things with great love and care, and eventually shape this society into something, that we’ll call perfect. And that is what the club works for! AARAMBH, the flagship event of the club, is a 5km marathon held at Bandstand, Bandra, where people from the entire city come and run for a cause. Every year, SRF dreams to target a new social problem and believes in coming up with solutions so as to eradicate it and achieve its aim of a better world, thus giving shape to its motto of ‘Dream. Believe. Achieve.’ With a footfall of around 2,500 and the 9th year of the titillating journey, AARAMBH, this year, stands for the cause of Women Rehabilitation from Trafficking. Human Trafficking is a rapidly growing social curse, a cobweb that has victimised a big share of people, through its clutches of sexual and labour exploitation. To our misfortune, it has majorly eyed the female community, as the women in our society are disproportionately affected by poverty and discrimination, factors that impede their personal growth and their access to employment and educational opportunities. Amidst the need for sexual slaves and cheap labour, the fundamental rights of the women go for a toss. It’s high time that we put an end to this, before this turns into a fatal vicious circle and eats us away. This year SRF has collaborated with APNE AAP WOMEN’S COLLECTIVE (AAWC), an NGO that actively aims to provide a caring and supportive platform of wholesome services to help women, girls and children in the Red Light Area of Kamathipura to make choices for a dignified and better quality life. AAWC provides the tools and resources for empowerment of trafficked brothel-based prostitutes, their daughters, other marginalized girls and children in one of Asia’s Biggest Red Light District, and prevents the cycle of intergenerational prostitution. Join us in our fight to raise awareness against Women Trafficking on 28th January 2018 at 7:30 am at Taj Lands Ends, Bandstand, Bandra. Come one, come all!
