Mishti Mukh: Welcome To Bengal's Sweet World

The information in this post might be outdated

What's the first thing you think of when we mention Bengal? Is it their rich culture and deep-rooted history of literature, iconic tramways and Howrah Bridge, Durga Pujo a.k.a. the festival of joy or, their sugar syrup coated and mouth watering sweets? Well, for us it's all of the above. But, but, but...the foodie in us always triumphs.

Bengali sweets. Mishti doi, rosogolla, ledikini, pantua (which looks a lot like Gulab Jamun, but it's not), sita bhog, shor bhaja and many more. While some are either deep fried in ghee and dipped into sugary syrup, others are made from rich homely ingredients like rice, cinnamon, jaggery, milk, khoya and so much more.

Drooling already? So are we! While there are a good share of food enthusiast who feel it's difficult to get your hands on authentic Bengali sweets in Mumbai, we also feel there are a few decades old sweet shops which do the job really well!

Here's a guide to some sweet shops which specialize in authentic Bengali sweets.

We asked a few foodies around! And almost everyone seemed to point out to this one as their favourite. A bright yellow board which reads Sweet Bengal, we're sure you've spotted this joint in multiple nooks and corners of the city. Established back in 1995, this iconic joint has as many 25 outlets cross the city.

Claiming to be from the 'Shores Of Bengal' this cute shop in Kharghar is caught our attention with their unique live Bengali sweet counter concept. So, no matter what time you head to their joint, you can get your hands on freshly made Bengali sweet served right from the kitchen. Amazing, isn't it?
