Our monthly edition of Bombay Jazz Club at Bonobo is back with a new line up!
The Bombay Jazz Club has been consistently arranging programs of live Jazz in Mumbai and beyond. With core members forming the Bombay Jazz Club House Band, they have played host to legions of outstanding musicians from all across India and the World. The Bombay Jazz Club has been instrumental in keeping Jazz as a central feature of the busy music scene.
Staying true to the art form, their ever expanding repertoire includes Jazz Standards, Funky grooves, Wailing improvisation, Jazzy riffs, Latin beats, and soulful, swinging non-stop music making.
For this edition, Bombay Jazz Club at Bonobo we feature Dee Wood on bass, Karim Ellaboudi on keys, Adrian D'souza on drums and Nakul Mehta on tenor saxophone.
Dee Wood has a long association with this city as a performer, composer and educator. Originally in India as a Fulbright research scholar, Wood has spent many years performing and teaching in USA, Europe, Latin America and India and collaborated with many notable musicians during this time. He currently heads the International Music program at Whistling Woods International film school in Film City Mumbai. D is a Co-founder of The Bombay Jazz Club, responsible for keeping Jazz in Mumbai very much in the centre of the overall music scene. D is a graduate of The Berklee College of Music.
Karim Ellaboudi is a classically trained pianist who grew up in the UK, His command over an array of styles, including Jazz, Funk, Latin, RnB, DnB and related genres has resulted in him being a much sought after artist by many well known names in the UK and India.
Known for his immense energy, his virtuosity and his very engaging rhythmic sensibilities, Karim is not only a wonderful accompanist but also a very good band leader. He has been putting together Jazz and RnB ensembles in various cities and has played a prominent role in bringing together the independent music communities in Delhi and Bombay.
Adrian D'souza is a versatile drummer involved in the New York jazz circuit. Born in Bombay, India, he started his musical pursuits at the age of five, performing on national radio and television. After getting his B.A Economics from the Bombay University, he went on to take the drummers seat in the Louis Banks Quartet. His fascination with cultures and music of other countries led him to travel across the globe.
Over the years, Adrian has traveled to Africa, Middle East, Far East, Papua New Guinea, Australia, Europe and America. During these visits, he lived with the locals, assimilated the culture, studied the music, its ethnocity and the applications of specific rhythms. Adrian has performed at the Hasangatta festival in Bangalore which also featured Ali Akbar Khan and Grammy award winner Vishwa Mohan Bhut. Adrian d’Souza has worked with renowned Carnatic singer Rama Mani and mridangam maestro T.S. Mani from Bangalore.
Adrian D’Souza is now based in New York. He is a member of the International Association of Jazz Educators and a student of Peter Erskine. He works extensively with Roseanna Vitro. Adrian also works with Special EFX and Ratzo Harris . Besides studying and performing in and around the New York area , he has recorded with Roseanna Vitro, Jon Lucien, Special EfX, John Fedchock, Charles Pillow, Lao Tizer, Paranoise and The Indica Project.
