The Mumbai Assembly presents a Chilean Folk Music Workshop by Ensamble Trnsatlantico de Folk Chileno. This is a workshop for musicians that will be conducted by Ernesto Calderón, Chilean Music Teacher, conductor, composer and arranger of Ensamble Transatlántico de Folk Chileno, and artistic leader of Ethno Flanders (2015), Ethno India (2016) and ChilEtno (2015-2016). Ernesto will be accompanied by Cristobal Araya on Clarinet & Saxophone and Monserrat Vasquez on Latin percussions. The topics covered at this workshop will be the following: * Rythms from northern Chile & the Andes: Huayno, Saya, and Salto. The “Andean swing” in 2/4 and 4/4, and common rhythmic patterns in folk melodies. * Music from central Chile: Cueca, the national dance. The unique “quintuplet swing” in 6/8, and the importance of hemiolas and duplets. * Introduction to “Ritmo con señas” (Rhythm with signs): A unique hand sign language for improvisation, created in Argentina by Santiago Vasquez, now popular around the world.
