Parsi cuisine is an integral part of Mumbai culture and lists down our favourite places to eat. Away from the limelight and perhaps missing from most lists is Sassanian Restaurant and Bakery. This small eatery has been around since 1913 and continues to serve its patrons with much love. You can easily spot this restaurant which is a stone's throw distance from the iconic Metro Cinema and right next to Jaffar Bhai's at Dhobhitalao.
Once you enter Sassanian your attention is immediately drawn towards the vintage interiors and interesting photographs of Iran on the walls around. This place is buzzing with college kids and working executives on a lookout for a quick grub.
While this place serves sizzlers and Chinese food too, I decided to stick to the Parsi Bhonu for lunch. Any visit to an eatery serving Parsi food is incomplete without sipping on a Pallonji’s Raspberry Soda so that was the first thing I asked for. For lunch, I ordered a mutton puff and Dhansak followed by their famous Mawa Cake. The bill for all this was just around INR 200. This place is indeed very economical and yet doesn't compromise on quality or quantity of food served. The other tables around me had bun maska, bhurji, sizzlers and kheema pav which I am assuming are other popular dishes at Sassanian.
There is a bakery attached to the restaurant which I definitely plan to visit the next time I visit this spot.
