There's a lot going on about conserving natural habitats and turtles form a big part of the ecosystem here in Maharashtra as they make their yearly visits on Anjarle and Velas beach. If you haven't had the chance to see hatchlings in their natural habitat yet, this turtle festival is the place to be. On this tour conducted by Ramblers India, you'll get to see turtles nesting at Anjarle and Velas beach, and you'll also get to explore major attractions like the Suvarnadurga islet fort by boat from Anjarle, Harihareshwar temple and the famous Pradakshina route. One thing we're really excited about is the chance to spend a night in a homestay in Velas, where we can feast on local cuisines.
The tour begins on Friday, March 13, where you start from Dadar at 10:30 PM following different pick up points along the way, and takes you to Anjarle. You reach Anjarle village on Saturday, March 14 at 5:30AM, have an introduction session and then reach the nesting area. You'll then get a chance to witness turtle hatchlings making their way to the sea. After that, you head off to the islet fort and then spend a night at a Velas homestay. There, you also get to see another turtle nesting area. On Sunday morning, you have breakfast, travel to Harihareshwar temple, have lunch there, and then make your way back to Mumbai.
The price per person is INR 2,800, which includes transport from Mumbai via a non-AC semi sleeper bus, breakfast, dinner, homestay on Saturday, breakfast, and the fort admission fee. It excludes snacks and lunch on Day 3.
