Ten-Second Takeaway

We took a tour inside Furtados, Mumbai’s iconic music store in Kalbadevi, to understand why every musician swears by this store, and why it’s the best place for all aspiring musicians.

What’s It About?

If you know anything about music, Furtados Music is a name that will ring a bell for sure. Whether you’re simply a music-lover or hang out with musicians, Furtados Store will resonate with you almost instantly. Established in Mumbai in 1865, today, this store has branches across the country, and till date is known to be the go-to shop for all musicians.

In Mumbai, Furtados has five outlets – Kalbadevi {two}, JVPD scheme, Borivali and Powai {two}. We went to the Furtados in south Mumbai – Furtados BX and Furtados Keys. The latter specialises in pianos, and is home to several limited edition pianos by Steinway & Sons, Pearl River, and more, among other high-end ones by the likes of Korg and son on. They have acoustic and digital pianos and keyboards, so those interested have a whole lot of variety to select from.

Furtados BX, however, is home to everything. They have limited-edition guitars from ESP and PRS among others, and have high-end acoustic guitars from Faith, along with the Apollo and Venus series and so on. They also have electronic drum kits from Kat, acoustic drums from Pearl, and more. This store has recently opened two new sections – one which is only for drums and percussion, while the other is for music books only. Expect to see music books from across categories including classical, and reference learning books from ABRSM and Trinity College London, among several others. Beyond the instruments and books, you will even get the smallest of accessories for your instruments such as guitar polish, plectrums, strings and a lot more.

So We’re Saying…

If you have even an iota of interest in music and would like to learn more about it, we say you head to Furtados now. They also have a Furtados School of Music that specialises in teaching varied forms of music.
