Ten-Second Takeaway

Yes, we definitely love food from over the globe, but let’s admit it- we always go for comforting desi food eventually. Check out these amazing restaurants that serve delicious North Indian grub.

Chawla's Dhaba, Sion-Koliwada

This is not an upscale place with great ambience, but a place where you’ll find rickety stools and newspapers under the greasy bhatooras. But the food here is great. The menu is basic Punjabi food, as well as an excess of what is traditionally called ‘dirty Indian Chinese’. You’ll find everything from plain naans to dal makhani being doled out here. The chhole kulche usually aren’t served past 3pm, so head there accordingly.

Chenab, Vashi

Chenab is not you regular off-the-mill dhaba but has been done in a rustic manner which gives it the feel and look of one. The decor is desi with settee seatings, colourful silk sheets everywhere and tall steel lassi glasses. However, what makes the ambience spectacular is its view, overlooking the sea.

When it comes to the taste, they do get the Punjabi flavours all right. They have your murg tang tunwar, tawa chicken, achar wale kebabs and other hardcore Punjabi dishes. For the vegetarians, there’s your paneer kesari, tandoori salad, chole paneer adrak etc.

Indie Villa is the newest kid on the block when it comes to north Indian cuisine. And if you happen to live in Andheri, then this might just become your go-to joint to binge at. This Mumbai restaurant has created a team of chefs from Delhi and is sprucing up some delicious Punjabi goodness.

A few of the dishes on the menu have been inspired from Chandni Chowk and a few dhabas around. Some of the restaurant’s signature dishes include naan turnovers, authentic butter chicken {not the sweet one}, tawa chicken made from masalas sourced from Delhi, and much more.

Aharveda, Andheri West

The biggest misconception that invariably crops up is that healthy food is meant to be bland and boring. To prove wrong any such misconception, the menu at Aharveda includes multiple cuisines like north Indian, Thai, Mexican and Italian. Soups like makai shorba, broccoli, palak and mouth-watering combos are on offer. Dessert is usually treated as an unhealthy treat- but the Gajar Halwa, Kheer and even chocolate mousse at Aharveda will not leave you feeling guilty.
