Boutique Hotel Abode In Mumbai, Is Our Home Away From Delhi

    Colaba, Mumbai

    Ten-Second Takeaway

The Regal Cinema lane in Colaba houses Abode, a charming boutique hotel perched over Le15 Patissiere, and we think it’s perfect for your next long weekend, creative getaway, or anniversary celebrations.

    How Is Abode Different?

Abode is tucked away in a corner of Colaba in Mumbai, and it’s hard to find if you’re not looking for it. The interiors are quiet and it almost gives you flashes of houses painted in Ruskin Bond’s works, thanks to all the fine woodwork. One can easily cuddle up on the couches, read a book or just space out. A large wooden staircase, along with a large hotel sign right out of an Alfred Hitchcock movie, greets us.

Trivia: The hotel used to be David Sassoon’s home!

    Why Should I Stay Here?

Abode is for the creatives looking for some downtime, or just a change of scenery. Creatively designed with teak wood desks, ample natural light inlets and pictures that spell out the city’s character perched on the wall, they put you in the right mind space to complete a script, song or a long-pending tune. We kid you not, one of the rooms has a bath tub in the room {we can finally live the wine and book fantasy with that one}.

The best thing about Abode, in our opinion, is the warmth we experienced as soon as we walked in. It’s not intimidating like a five-star hotel; it almost nudges you to be yourself.

The decor also makes it a great spot for any design-aficionado to get a crash course on Mumbai’s art and design heritage. Supporting local trade {they have tie-ups with several NGOs}, you’ll find everything from a Kulture Shop to the only woman chauffeur on board at Abode.

The showpieces have been picked up locally – we identified stuff from Oshiwara furniture market and Chor Bazaar. From recycled books in a frame to clocks from a shipyard to room numbers that have been painted by truck drivers, we loved the unassuming vibe that comes with the place.

    So We’re Saying…

Abode is one of the most welcoming yet well-designed spaces in the city. The David Sassoon collection, the city-centric design and the location make it a must-do for Mumbai lovers. The counter with small packets of Parle-G and a sign saying ‘Please take this’ at the entry is a testimony to its welcoming vibe. A long-weekend trip, anyone?
