What Makes It Awesome

We spotted a really small shop at Tardeo that caught our fancy. A true hole-in-the-wall #HiddenGem, if we’ve ever seen one!

Too easy to miss, this tiny store called Breach Candy Antiques, is a one-man show and only opened up just about a year ago. The shop owner, Kailash, told us how he’d always been an antiques enthusiast and decided to do something about it! Today, he sources antiques from the many garage sales and estate sales that happen in the area, and we’d say his choices are quite on point!

There’s a pretty wide mix of items, the store has lots of small statuettes, curios and old-timey 'showpieces.' They’re all clearly from many different parts of the world, with Chinese and Thai sculptures, European garden gnomes, dainty little nativity figurines, beautiful antique snow-globes, and more. We especially loved the range of cat figurines that comes in several adorable colours, sourced directly from multiple garage sales. There are also vintage framed photos, with old photos of erstwhile Bombay—which we think makes for the perfect addition to a gallery wall at home.

The store also had a few well-preserved vinyls, so if you're an enthusiast, this is worth checking out!

Genuine antiques are not exactly a rarity, but this store is surprisingly well-curated. Kailash told us that many of his pieces are from far-flung corners of the world, notably Europe, and South East Asia. He is particular about the condition of each piece, and refurbishes certain pieces before selling them to make sure they stay looking beautiful.

An aspect we loved about this store is the fact that all the pieces are not too large. The sizes are perfect for gifting, and a small antique piece is a great way to add character to a bookshelf, tabletop or accent wall.

The range is steep, but do remember that these are genuine antiques. Be prepared to shell out upwards of INR 1,500, and upto INR 6,000 for the larger pieces.
