Shortcut

Need to get away from it all but don’t have the time {or funds}? We went boating in Goregaon East and came back fresher. Here’s why you should head there too.

What Is It?

Aarey – the protected colony nestled inside Goregaon {East} – could become our spot to take it easy. It almost seems surreal when you take a right turn from the expressway and the background suddenly changes from concrete to greens. Called Chhota Kashmir, its name will instantly make you sceptical, but hold on.

When you start breathing in the trees and soak some sunlight peeping through the trees, it makes you feel stabilised in this fast-moving city. A 30-minute boat ride will cost you INR 20 and render peace for the rest of the day. There are egrets, parrots, mynahs and ravens in large numbers waiting to be spotted. Although the food stalls aren’t much {they serve your regular Indian Chinese and local cuisine} but hey, it’ll be unreal to expect a fine dining restaurant in the middle of the humble Aarey. The beauty of this trip lies in simplicity.

Anything Else?

The trip will take about 1.5 hours to finish. If you are a true nature lover and like to take things up a notch, we highly recommend giving the Aarey nursery a visit. It’s expansive and almost surreal. The gardener inside will be happy to take you on a tour. People looking to deck up their houses with plants, look no further. Each plants costs you INR 15 here and they also give you tips on how to maintain them. The nursery is a Maharashtra government undertaking and tells you to BYOP {Bring Your Own Pots} to the nursery ’cause they don’t sell them.
