NCPA has always been the hub for the best of the best music, dance, theatrical and cinematic performances. It has brought quality storytelling and a unique charm to the table, and this time we’re super excited for their new theatrical screening “Cyrano de Bergerac”, directed by Jamie Lloyd and adapted by Martin Crimp. This National Theatre Live Screening centers around the theme of satire and love, and talks about inner and outer beauty. Sounds heavy right? But we were in awe with the storyline, and how well constructed it was.
Lloyd has brought ground realities of life to the forefront. He has created a sense of unease and discomfort as the protagonist, Cyrano goes through emotional turmoil due to irregularities between his charming personality and physical looks. Cyrano holds back from his erratic feelings of love for his distant cousin as he fears rejection because of his abnormally large nose. He is accomplished, brave, witty and has a good heart but just like everyone else, holds himself back because of his insecurities. The story comes to a climax when a third person comes in and asks Cyrano to help woo his cousin, the very girl he loves.
Packed with love and humour, this screening has brought us delight with a sense of awe towards the message it delivers. Make sure to attend It this Sunday on 15th March,2020 at the Dance Theatre Godrej: NCPA.
