“Blue Frog-walla mill,” we say to taxi drivers when we’re heading to the Lower Parel hub for a concert or a quick dinner. But there’s a lot more to Mathuradas Mills than food and drinks. We found the coolest must-have items you need to pick up after office to get your home to the next level.

Top Hat Lights

Décor Studio by Twinkle Komadia is like an oasis in a shopping desert. Open your eyes wide and you’ll find some gems here that would instantly make your home {or room} look brighter and happier.

What did we love here? This pink postbox with scribbles in French to slip inside cute notes or even your morning newspaper. Pretty, oui? Other things we’d recommend snapping up now are beautiful papier mache cork bottles, mason jars and book-inspired book ends to file the Du Mauriers in between. The back of their store, though, is where the real magic is hiding – in the lighting section, we found a black top hat hanging from the ceiling, lit from the inside. And all that jazz?

Price: INR 850 for the letterbox, INR 2,840 for the hat light, INR 550 for the mix tape wall hanging.

Customised Cushion Covers

Just got out of work and still need to buy some cushion covers to spruce up the new room? Don’t worry about dragging yourself all the way to Bandra. Check Zeba, a two floor retail space with oodles of good quality bed linen, carpets, cushion covers, bed covers, table linen, etc.

Apart from so{ooo} many options, traditional, slightly kitschy, embroidered, what is cool is that they have been making their own prints since ’87, and are best known for customisations. Usually customisations are associated with bulk orders, but not here – want one single cushion cover but your way? They will do it for you, and at no higher cost. Talk about customer service.

Price: For a cushion, INR 299 upwards, a ready-made carpet: INR 3,600 upwards, yoga cover bag: INR 1,250

Let's Spoon

Just because you weren’t born with a silver spoon, doesn’t mean you still can’t get one. Hop into Filigree, a small store with wooden steps right before where you will find Café Zoe, which has some really interesting spoon designs, because they root for the underdog of the cutlery world. If that’s a little too niche for your taste, why not also glance at their earrings and clutches collection? Happy shopping. And yes, you can have a cookie from SHM after.

Price: Earrings start at INR 100, Silver earrings at INR 700

Art Deco Love

You might miss this while walking on the bricked paths of this mill, but remember to pause, turn around and climb up to this design haven. We entered and were floored by their furniture collection and wall art {not for sale} that they’d put up. Higher on the budget, Highlight Living makes unique furniture pieces inspired by art deco and the mid-century modern movement. They use old, weathered teak, rosewood and play up the woodwork with patchwork and beautiful prints they usually source from Anokhi in Kolkatta. Think dark brown desks with white drawers and three legged bedstand stands with a dash of orange attached.

Each piece {except for the ones that are one-off antique ones} will be recreated for you, so check their website or visit the store and place your order.

#LBBTip: They take 4-5 weeks after an order has been placed, so do remember to take that into account.

Price: INR 10,000 upwards {Packing charges are INR 350 an item, plus extra shipping and loading charges depending on the size of the item, and your location}.
