Experience The Geminid Meteor Shower With Space Geeks Mumbai

December is one of the best months when it comes to stargazing. The Geminid meteor shower is probably one of the most spectacular celestial events of the year, which peaks during the nights of December 13-14, with predictions of up to 80-100 meteors per hour at the peak.

This year, there's also an added bonus of being able to observe Comet 46P/Wirtanen, which is going to pass very close to earth on December 16. 

Space Geeks Mumbai has organised an overnight stargazing session on the outskirts of Panvel on December 13 & 14. Apart from this celestial event, you will also get to watch some of the prominent constellations in the night sky, planets, star clusters, nebulae and the Andromeda Galaxy. A powerful 8-inch diameter telescope will be used to observe all this. 

The price for the event is INR 1,400, which includes transport from Panvel station to observation field and back, food, venue charges, a common hall for rest, printed resources (night sky charts and study material) and viewing through telescopes. 

The sessions will start with an introduction and a short presentation about astronomy. It will then move on to the observation field to witness the meteor shower and the Comet. You will observe Mars, the Moon and its craters, a few star clusters, nebulae, and the Andromeda galaxy through telescopes. the session will wrap up with viewing Venus at dawn.
