What Makes It Awesome

We’ve come to associate Thane with banger after banger when it comes to Maharashtrian food. From Malvani to Varhadi cuisines, you’re bound to find finger-licking misals at every turn, and there’s icon after icon to cover. Gokhle Uphaar Gruha is one of the unmissable icons in Thane.

This vegetarian family restaurant has a super wholesome vibe, and we hear it’s always super full. Here’s an early #Pro-Tip: Parking might be an issue.

The restaurant serves up a fairly concise range of true-blue Maharashtrian fare - spicy, layered, and infused with the flavours of chillis, coconuts, peanuts or Goda Masala. Prepare to order doubles of the aluvadi, sabudana khichdi, batata vada, and of course, the Misal! Don't forget the matar karanji, it's a must-try.

We’re tempted to name every dish on the menu as unmissable. But we should tell you this - if you haven’t tasted Upvas-style preparations of the classic, you’re missing out!

This eatery is located quite conveniently at Gokhale road, a cool 10-minute walk away from Thane Railway Station, on the western side. You could head here for a bite after a shopping sesh, or before, to fuel yourself for one!
