Ten-Second Takeaway

The good old days of going out, and listening onto the jukeboxes are long gone. Instead, now most of the bars and restaurants have their own set playlists or even a DJ. Since we’re a sucker for all things vintage, we have looked around for restaurants and bars in Mumbai that still have a functional jukebox, and yep, you can play your favourite classic on it.

Sunlight Bar

Sunlight bar has been almost every second south Bombay college student’s go-to bar – it is affordable, and ranks up to Janta or Gokul {it’s not a crowded as well}. And even better is the fact that this bar has an old jukebox, playing most of our favourite songs.

Play Me The Regulars: Though the jukebox is generally updated with the latest tracks, find classic bands like U2, or even Alisha Chinai’s indie classic, ‘Made in India‘. What else? They’ve got Bob Marley as well as Bollywood songs.

Price: INR 10 per song

Cafe Mondegar

This landmark of a cafe on Colaba Causeway is still one of the few places in the city that has a functional, and the oh-so-colourful jukebox in the corner. Mondegar, on most days, though is crowded is still worth a trip {check out our guide on why you need to go here}.

Play Me The Regulars: With its only English tracks, find Beatles, ABBA, Pink Floyd, and the ever so popular, Hotel California by The Eagles.

Cafe Ideal

This famous Irani cafe with its almost ancient jukebox has a mix of Bollywood, and English songs. With its envious location near the Chowpatty, and its boozy menu, the college crowd often gets a kick out of requesting songs off the jukebox.

Play Me The Regulars: Nothing like playing out Shah Rukh Khan’s popular tracks, from Kal Ho Na Ho To DDLJ – it has got it all. And if you’re more into the English classics, you can request the classic, Pink Floyd’s, ‘Wish You Were Here‘ at some point {it was one of the most requested song at Ideal}.

Jamjar Diner {Bandra & Versova}

The All-American Diner in Versova along with its newly-opened outlet in Bandra, is known for three things – quirky decor, delicious menu and a jukebox that sits cosily inside the outlets.

Play Me The Regulars: The jukebox has a good collection of English songs and features some of the more contemporary bands and artists like Coldplay, Britney Spears, and even Justin Bieber. Though if we’re out there requesting, it is always 3 Doors Down.
