What Makes It Awesome?
Built on an expanse of 500 acres, Film City is one of the major tourist attractions in the city. It’s about 40-years-old now and is located in Goregaon East – a greener patch in the city. A little up ahead of Aarey Colony, the campus has about 16 studios and 42 ready locations to shoot outdoors and indoors. Think churches, open flat roads, lakes, huts, bungalow sets and more.
The access was only restricted to actors and crew until 2014. It then opened its door to regular movie tours that the public can take. Mumbai Filmcity Tours is the only official Bollywood tour in the city. They offer different types of tours for visitors: The original one, the Filmcity Tour, is a two-hour guided tour that will take you around famous locations in Filmcity. You'll also get a chance to see a live shooting from the bus - if one is on or check out TV filmings from a vantage point. You'll also get a chance to visit an outdoor studio location. The tour is priced at INR 650. There are 4 slots - the first at 11 AM and the last at 4:30 PM.
The Live Show Tour is a 1.5 hour guided tour that gets you up close and personal with the entire filming experience. You'll get to visit a live shoot set, see how TV serials are made and if you're lucky get a chance to have your photo taken with the actor if they agree, of course.Tour costs INR 1,600 for Indian citizens and is from 4 PM onwards.
Currently they are in the process of adding a Mumbai Darshan Tour as well. Film City makes for a one-day visit not only for the tourists, but also for those looking to mix things up a little. The bars need a break, anyway.
