What Makes It Awesome

A cute little hidden gem of a store on Pali Hill in Bandra, Ashlyn Jane is a designer boutique full of dreamy cotton kurtis that are hand-woven and affordable. Set up by Shivani Desai almost two decades back in Bandra, Ashlyn Jane is a small-scale designer boutique offering ethnic modern wear for women of all shapes and sizes. Enter the store to be greeted by Shivani at the desk and colourful cotton apparel covering up the entire store. All of these are in fact personally designed by Shivani herself – simple, elegant and comfortable.

Using purely 100% hand-woven cotton fabric and techniques by skilled Artisans like hand-block printing for the garments, there is a level of assured authenticity attached to the clothes. Whilst browsing the store we came across some gorgeous patterns with intricate embroidery around the neck, mirror patchwork, Zardozi, pastel florals and even ikat prints.

The texture of the kurtis is light, breezy and just about perfect for casual and formal wear. In fact, for the kind of work that goes into these garments, it’s actually an affordable fare with short kurtis starting at INR 1,000, with long kurtis at INR 1,500 and upwards. Not just kurtis, Ashlyn also has palazzo pants (in all prints and colours), bandhani dupattas and a small section dedicated to gorgeous accessories. Prices start around the INR 550 mark.

Pro-Tip

It’s possibly one of the few ethnic-clothes-selling stores to stock XXS (extra extra small for the petite ladies out there) and that’s a boon considering it saves us all the extra alteration charges.
