What Makes It Awesome?

A Samaritan and the good people at The Candle Project, a Mumbai-based NGO for underprivileged kids is looking to set-up a student owned library in Versova. They're looking to get at least 100 English books for the students who live in the slums around Versova and encourage a good reading habit amongst them.

Viraj Shah, the brain behind the initiative tells us, he wanted to do something for the children, and he got in touch with The Candle Project. He adds that these kids, in general, have access to school textbooks, but they lack access to literature and other children's books. To fill this gap, along with the volunteers of The Candle Project, they decided to take matters into their own hands.

Currently, they are looking for children's book and comics like Harry Potter, Archies, Enid Blyton, Tintin or any other book you think is appropriate. Or if you have any favourite book from your childhood, please feel free to drop it off to them.

What's My Pro Tip?

In case you want to help but don't have a book to donate, you can also donate cash that will help The Candle Project in keeping up with the stationery budget.

Anything Else?

As of now, they are looking to distribute the donated books to the kids in schools. The rest of the books will be with the volunteers, and they can then make sure the kids keep borrowing more from their end.

To donate books, or if you know of someone who is interested, get in touch with Viraj directly. You can call him on 7042596259.
