Explore Mumbai's Natural Heritage With BNHS On This Walk

BNHS Heritage Tree Walk

What's Happening?

If you’re a fan of greenery, if plants and sunshine bring you joy, and if you have nothing to do on your Sunday, this is for you. The Bombay Natural History Society has brought a unique walk purely made for appreciating nature and how it has been a part of Mumbai since ages. While we’re forever in awe of our ancient buildings and roads named by honorable people, what has also built our beloved city are these trees.

Some of these date back to the times when Mumbai was Bombay. They’ve seen the best and the worst of our city, acted as landmarks and each of these have a story to tell. From carvings on their old, sturdy barks, to pink blooms to huge shades which occupy the breadth of a road, BNHS has got an exciting walk planned for you with a variety of rare tropical trees.

Calm your senses and open your mind as embark on this 3-4 kilometer walk which is surprisingly easy and more refreshing than tiring. BNHS will take you through rare and tropical trees (over 318 species!). These vary from exotic ones brought from overseas dating back to the 19th century to sturdy ones after which landmarks are named. BNHS members get a discounted registration fare at INR 400.

How’s the venue?

The walk starts at the BNHS Headquarters at Hornbill House and explores 3-4km around South Mumbai.

Make a note
