What Is It?
Did you know that Bandra of past was actually a fishing village inhabited by the local Koli fishermen folk? With an influx of East Indians {Goans, Mangloreans, Parsis, Koli folk, Europeans and others}, Bandra was divided into a number of villages – Sherly, Malla, Rajan, Kantwady, Waroda, Ranwar, Boran, Pali, and Chuim. The heritage walk by Awestrich will explore one of those last few remaining villages, Ranwar Village, through a socio-cultural and architectural lens.
Ranwar Village is a 400-year-old traditional East Indian Christian settlement, also known as “Gaothan” in the heart of Bandra. Initially, Ranwar Village consisted of several agricultural fields but now houses several bungalows that are still a treat for sore eyes.
