A backpackers hostel in Mumbai takes its guests on a journey across the city with its train, tuk-tuk and bus-themed dorms.

Toot, Toot

Bombay Backpackers Hostel in BKC is the venture of founders Jasmeet and Angad, serial backpackers and businessmen {who are also co-founders to this backpacker’s hotel Basti that we wrote about recently}.

What once used to be Jasmeet’s home, is now a lovely little space for all travellers to come, drop their backpacks and make it their homely base as they go out and explore the city.

What makes this 10-month-old hostel unique is the theme they’ve spun it around – transport of Mumbai.

Each of its four dorms is modelled around modes of transport, be it a tuk-tuk {or as we locals call it, an auto}, taxi, bus or train.

The colour schemes of each dorm are true to the actual vehicle, with black and yellow hues introducing the autos and the taxis to the travellers. What truly makes it stand out though are the beautiful and funky wall murals done in each of the rooms in relation to the theme.

There are in total 29 beds divided across four rooms, all of which are air-conditioned and suitable for mixed groups. Each bed has a reading light and storage space to itself.

If you walk around the hostel, you’ll find the common room to be the watering hole where all flock to, some in search of the TV, some to be closer to the closed smoking room adjacent to it. But most importantly, to meet new people and hang out on the tyre-shaped seats and comfy couches {amazing}.

When they want to grab a snack, they can go fix something up in the colourful kitchen or order in from nearby eateries. The stay costs INR 899 a night and includes breakfast such as poha, upma, pav bhaji and more very Mumbai dishes.

At Bombay Backpacker’s Hostel, they also celebrate all of Mumbai’s festivals for the travellers – Holi, Diwali, Dusshera, Eid, Ganesh Chaturthi – you name it. They also have activities planned such as night city tours on a bus {party on a bus}, slum tours, pub crawls and more.

Although several of the backpackers have come from far off lands, we bumped into a few Indian travellers too, both male and female who all loved staying here for the experience and amenities.

So We're Saying...

All the hostellers we met seemed comfortable and just at home. Seeing the staff, vibe and splashes of colours, we really don’t wonder why.

While although anyone with a Mumbai ID card may not be able to stay here due to Police permissions, please do send forth all your friends visiting their way. Do contact them if you have further queries.
