Prithvi theatre is what i remembered from my recent trip to the city of dreams, the memory that tops the list would definitely be the evening spent at .
Prithvi theatre definitely offers something for each and everyone present there, by way of its amazing cafe (separate post on it), festivals, bookshop, gallery and adda. One has to be at there to understand its grandness, as words would just never be enough to express the entire experience.
The theatre has performances from Tuesday to Sunday with Mondays being closed for maintenance and rehearsals. Throughout the year the place showcases over 600 plus shows with an average audience of around 75 percent, which is very high for a theatre space.
Enough said and yet the place will still surprise you when you visit it next, even if you have been there before. From the fabulous lighting (representing bambaiya's chamak dhamak) to the ever so hospitable staff and amazing audience, surely leaving you in awe of the place.
The play we watched was aptly called 'Deewar' has been written by Inder Raj Anand and Prithviraj Kapoor, directed by Sunil Shanbag. This was one of the finest performance I've seen in a long time, courtesy the experienced and passionate artists weaving their magic on stage.
If you are ever in Mumbai, do not miss this place even if you are not into theatre, like I said it will still pleasantly surprise you. And who knows if you are as fortunate as me you might overhear bewildering poetry written by Kaifi Azmi around the corner.
You can google Prithvi theatre for details regarding its formation, management team as well as for booking upcoming shows on their official website.
