It’s reported that the very first sea ropeway in the country is likely to begin in Mumbai and will connect Sewri to Elephanta Island and we’re super stoked about this news.

Say Whaaat?

As reported by Hindustan Times, “the first and longest ropeway to connect Mumbai with the famous Elephanta Island in the Arabian Sea is planned to be constructed by the Mumbai Port Trust”. The 8km long ropeway will begin at Sewri and end at Elephanta Island in Raigad district. The Elephanta Caves are a Unesco World Heritage site and are frequented by many.

This will be the country’s first ropeway across the sea, and is likely to be made on the lines of those present in France, Singapore, and China {how cool is that?}. The ropeway will transport tourists and locals to Elephanta Island in 40 minutes through a 20-seater cable car {which otherwise takes an hour via a a ferry from Gateway of India}. No further details are known, but worry not, we shall keep you updated.

So, We're Saying...

Looks like weekend plans to Elephanta Caves are gonna be a more common affair now…
