Neel, the speciality Indian restaurant from the house of deGustibus Hospitality, in collaboration with Authentic cook introduces a ‘Konkani Muslim Ramzan Special’ menu at the ground level of Tote on the Turf. This elaborate spread will give the city a taste of this lesser-known but heritage-rich cuisine.
Begin the feast with a sweet and tangy chilled Kokum Sharbat drink made with ‘Amsul’ or ‘Kokum’ as it is called in western Maharashtra. For the non-vegetarians, the meal starts with appetizers like the Bangde – Kelyachya Paanat – Mackerel marinated in spices, wrapped in a banana leaf and cooked in its own juices in an earthen pot on a low flame without using water and the Chicken Cutlet – an Iftar special. This is followed by the first course with traditional fares such as Akhni Gosht, Sukhi Kolbi and Kavtacho Bojar which will be served with Chawrachi Roti and Dry Red Chilly Chutney, among others. Dum Cha Mhaura and Hirwya Masalyat Maas – Mutton cooked in green masala, the perfect accompaniment to the Soloni and Khichdi, are some of the delectable offerings in the second course.
For the vegetarians, one can look forward to starting off with the Paneer - Kelyachya Paanat and Veg Shammi Kabab. The first course comprises trademark cultural dishes like the Bharleli Wangi, Vegetable Haldoni and Shenga Batata chi Bhaji. Moving on to the second course, the Badi Cha Salna, Khatte Batate and Sherwa, served with a traditional version of thick Sol Kadi -Soloni is not to be missed.
The Khichdi and the Masoor Dal, combining familiar flavours with a Konkani Muslim twist, make for the perfect end to the savoury repertoire of delicacies.
End the meal on a sweet note with China Grass, which might sound Chinese but is a common dish found at typical Konkani Muslim Homes and Pelve, a famous crepe dessert made with eggs, coconut and sugar.
Celebrating this rich culture, the menu is curated by Authenticook Home-chefs and cousins, Mumtaz and Sameera assisted by the chefs at Neel. Hailing from Harnai, a traditional fishing village in Ratnagiri District, the cousins are extremely passionate about cooking and learnt most of the traditional cooking from their mothers.
Come celebrate the auspicious month of Ramzan at Neel and experience this unique gastronomical wonder, available all week long.
