Shortcut

Unless you’ve been hit by a health food rock and have been lying under it since, you’ll know that McDonalds has a new menu. We tried their experiments in the kitchen, for the purpose of work, and have listed our observations below.

Requirements

A steady internet connection {and in case of lack of, a decent phone connection}, access to their menu, a few funds and a brave appetite.

Process

1. During a ravenous lunch hour, call up the nearest McDonalds and order yourself food from their new menu – namely, from the Indian, Italian and American cuisines.
2. Pick out something from everything – an aloo chapati naan burger, a chicken cheesy Italiano burger, American cream & onion shake shake fries.
3. After much deliberation, decide on a dessert between the new mud pie shake, Italian mocha shake and the phirni mcflurry.
4. Naturally, order the Phirni Mcflurry to see what this is all about.
5. Wait for food, wait some more.
6. Receive the order. Worry they haven’t sent the fries mix, find it and dig right in!

Inference

The order, split between two colleagues was devoured in 10 minutes flat and here is what we thought. We quite loved the aloo naan burger, though it was definitely unusual to have such a thin burger base. The patty was much like the one in McAloo Tikki only with a much thinner bun, we loved the fries as they reminded us of chips by a certain brand we love, and the Italian burger was pretty amazing with Italian sauces and was mild in flavour as well {for the anti mcSpicy chicken crew}.

Lastly, the Phirni McFlurry came to us as a shocker, with such an Indian flavour incorporated pretty smoothly into the ice-cream? Did it exactly go with the rest of the food we ate? Not really, but is definitely something we’d go back for.

Our verdict: the new menu is interesting, and they’ve neither nailed it nor completely messed it up. We recommend you try and make up your mind. And definitely order two of those aloo naan burgers because one is not big enough. Have a happy meal!
