What Is It?

Every time we decide to stroll around in Fort, we come across an old structure or a never-seen-yet café that usually blows us away. Today was no exception.

Iranian cafes are all over SoBo and have always been a part of this city’s history. They’ve been serving wholesome Parsi delicacies for decades and are frequented with much gusto by loyal patrons and newbies alike. Café Military belongs to this group of legends, that has been delighting its audience with food since 1933.

Meat Cute

Enter one of the back lanes in Fort and you’ll reach this quaint café that is well known in the community and to office goers in the area for its famous kheema pav. As always, Café Military aims to delight, with the USP being that it feels like eating a great home-cooked meal that really satiates the soul.

When you enter the café, you realise how much it is frozen in time with its lovely old tiles, wooden tables with checkered tablecloths, chairs, fans, and everything else in between, it feels like time has stood still since 1933.

It specialises in Parsi and Mughlai cuisine, but we went on Navroze, where once a year, they have a special menu that comprises of all the Parsi favourites like Mutton and Chicken Boti Berry Pulav, Egg Berry Pulav, Kesari Murghi Papeti, Kid Ghosh Papeta, Fish Cutlets, Vindaloo Gravy, Paneer Athelu and to tempt your sweet side, Mawa Mewa nu Custard {one of the best things I’ve eaten – it’s a mawa custard with dry fruits on top, silky smooth and nothing like I’ve ever had before}. We topped this off with a cold beer and some famous raspberry soda and we were as happy as the people at the next table who were making appreciative noises after every mouthful.

So, We’re Saying…

Most of the places around this café are pubs and fusion food joints, but it’s the food that draws people to this café every single time. That and the loyalty {our waiter has served me once when I was a child and I can never forget how lovingly he greets all the patrons}.

Visit it to get your fix of delicious Parsi cuisine that is sure to get you wanting more.

A meal for two without beer will cost you around INR 350.
