The information in this post might be outdated

Every biker (however bizarre this may seem) looks forward to riding in the rains. No matter how dangerous this may be given the low visibility and slippery roads, it’s all so thrilling. So have your bikes been polished and serviced? Is the riding gear in place, ready to brave the monsoon?  Because we collated the most beautiful monsoon trails in and around Maharashtra to kickstart your monsoon with. Let’s go!

Vaitarna Dam

The Vaitarna Dam, the reason most of Mumbai gets its water, is breezy and pretty, enough to rid you of your tiredness. About 100 km from Mumbai, the area alongside Vaitarna dam is perfect to set up your own tents between the pristine waters of the dam on one side and Sahyadri ranges on the other. If that’s not your scene, there are travelling groups that arrange for camp nights here.

Kolad

Located about 130 km from Mumbai, Kolad is for the adrenaline junkies. They have a bunch of things to do here from zip lining to Burma bridge and rifle shooting. But the showstopper activity is white water river rafting, which is open throughout the year but the best time is June-September for greener surroundings and challenging rapids.

Malvan

If you’re looking for a long haul, attempt Mumbai to Malvan, a 500 km long ride through Ganpatipule. One of the most scenic highways of the country, you wouldn’t regret taking this route. While Ganpatipule will give you your required dose of vitamin sea, Malvan is a foodie’s paradise for all the seafood lovers.

Saputara

For a change, plan a ride northwards. Saputara, a small hill station about 250 km from Mumbai, in Gujarat offers everything that makes a picnic a pleasure - a ropeway, rose garden, boating, paragliding and sunset points. If you’re into heritage, Hathgadh fort is also nearby. Nothing like visiting a hill station in the monsoons.

Kaas Plateau

This is called the valley of flowers in Maharashtra, and rightly so because come monsoon and everything blooms in its full glory. Kaas lake adds to the destination with dense forest all around it which boasts of more than 850 variety of flowers. Thinking of Instagram already?

#LBBTip

We recommend you to do all the bike rides in groups. If an official biking group stresses you out for the lack of freedom, at least get your tribe together and head out to these routes.

Don't forget to add that waterproof lining to all your gear. Happy riding!
