Ten-Second Takeaway

Alps Restaurant and Beer Bar in Colaba is 40 years old, but still a hit with patrons of all age groups for its amazing sizzlers and cheap beer.

What’s It About?

Set up in 1976 by Ramesh Sethi, Alps was originally the owner’s house which he then converted into a bar-cum-restaurant. His idea behind starting Alps was providing guests with affordable beer and tasty sizzlers, all while making it a women-friendly bar too {for those times}. As Sethi tells us, Alps became an instant hit with college students and a lot of airline crew who then stayed at the Taj Mahal Hotel, but dined here.

Today, Alps still serves only beer and wine, but has some delectable food too. Opt for their pitcher {one-and-a-half litre} for INR 520 {without taxes}, which we still think is one of the most value-for-money pitchers. If you go there during their happy hours {between 3pm to 7pm}, you will experience something unique – with every beer you order, you can get either a portion of French fries or aloo tikki {your pick} for free. Try their sizzlers – we won’t recommend just one because they’re all good – as well as their delicious fish and chips. We’re told they also plan to open a new wine bar inside and add more to their existing collection.

So We’re Saying…

If you’re hanging out in town, head to Alps for a glass of chilled beer and admire their 1970’s interiors {laminated tables, long hanging lamps and posters on the walls} all while enjoying a boozy evening that will not leave you broke.
