Foodies, here's some good news: there's a new restaurant in town! We're always on the lookout for interesting new places to cover and Cafe Mommy Joon definitely caught our eye. This take-away and delivery joint is all about serving up authentic Persian dishes - think kebobs, polows, mezze, stews and more.
We took a look at their menu and spotted dishes you might be familiar with like Zereshk Polow or Berry Pulao and hummas. Besides, we also spotted dishes that we may not have eaten before like Joojeh Kebob or BBQ chicken served with grilled tomato, pickle, sprinkled with sumac with saffron rice or roti (Picadilly fans will find similarities with their kebob dishes and Mama Joon's). I'm personally excited to try their Gheymeh Nakhod, or lamb yellow split pea simmered in tomato saffron gravy served with saffron basmati rice for a rainy day meal.
And who can forget dessert? If you've been longing to try baklava or even if you already love it, Mama Joon makes traditional multi-layered flaky baklava as well as other sweet treats like Persian icecream flavoured with pistachio and rosewater, Persian cotton candy and a version of firni.
