I had my Saturday afternoon spent perfectly with visiting Gateway Taproom, which was on my to-visit list for a few months now. Of course, you enjoy sipping beers chilling with friends in the evenings, but heck the place looks LIT in the afternoons (check out the pictures). My server, Mr Yogesh, was one of the most jovial people there, and he was pretty helpful with suggesting us to try some of the most delicious food ever. Their craft beer collection is one of the prime reason that you should visit the place, but don't worry, the food is equally good too.
As I wanted to try multiple beers, I opted for Flight (4 125ML beers of your choice) (Rating 5/5), where I chose White Zen (Rating 5/5), Four Hop Ipa (Rating 4/5), Kaapi Stout (Rating 5/5), and Tamarind Wit (Rating 5/5). The beers were chilled, and each had its unique taste, but my favourite was their signature item - White Zen. Next, I had the classic LIIT (Rating 5/5), which turned out to be classic indeed. It was the perfect alcohol mix in a large glass, and the right quantity of ice and coke made it perfect. I ordered their Lavash Spicy Salsa (Rating 4/5) as a side snack with the drinks. It was a unique combo, and one should try it for its oomph of spiciness.
Later, I tried their Black Pepper Chicken Skewers (Rating 5/5), which tasted wonderful because of the perfect marinade of black pepper. Then I tried their Tomato Mozzarella Flatbread (Rating 4.5/5), which was something different than the usual pizzas. The toppings were generously spread, and the pizza was delicious and went perfectly with the beers. Oh, and their Melon Feta Carpaccio (Rating 5/5) had muskmelon carpaccio (thinly sliced) with feta and wine drizzled; it was a unique appetiser, and one of the must-tries.
For the main course, I tried their Prawn & Barley Risotto (Rating 5/5), and boy, this is by far the best risotto I have ever had in my life. No doubt it may pinch your pocket looking at the price, but I personally feel it's all worth it. The buttery smooth barley (yes, their risottos are cooked with barley) with wine reduction and super buttery flavour will melt your heart, and the prawn size was generously large.
Next, I tried Lamb Meatball Spaghetti (Rating 5/5), and it was perfect. If you are a usual chicken meatball spaghetti fan, then do try this dish; perfectly minced and cooked meatballs with oodles of flavoursome curry over boiled spaghetti.
For dessert, I ordered Beer-a-Misu (Rating 5/5), which, again, was PERFECT. This beer-based tiramisu (white zen) was served in a beer glass and was drool-worthy from its initial impressions. The texture of the cake was smooth as silk, and the sponge cake was ultimate. Another dessert which caught my eye was Financier (Rating 4/5), which was warm and almost gooey almond cake with almond vanilla ice cream.
Overall, it's the best place in BKC for craft beers and quality of food.
