For some, its an yearly tradition, and for some, its the after-effect of watching Bollywood films like Kai Po Che or Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (okay, that's a long name so we'll stick to HDDCS) But whatever the case may be, Mumbai does have a huge audience that loves to fly its kites high up in the air. And if you're one of them, head to these grounds now.
Kai Po Che: Head To The City's Best Places To Fly That Kite On Makar Sankranti
Shivaji Park, Dadar
The Shivaji Park's an old-favorite. You'll see cricketers practicing, people jogging, and then there's you and your group flying kites. This wide field is just the right place to flock to, for bringing in the Sankranti.
Timings: Open all day, all night.
Central Park, Kharghar
We love the fact that this park has an amphitheatre too. And this park in Navi Mumbai's Kharghar is so refreshing in itself that you would not want to come back once you're there. It covers a huge land and there's ample space for kite-flying.
Timings: 6 AM to 11 AM; 5 PM to 8 PM
Oval Maidan, Churchgate
One of the largest recreational grounds in the city, this maidan has an old-world vibe that can't be matched. With a beautiful backdrop of art deco buildings, flying a kite at Oval Maidan is something that you'll really enjoy, if you're a photographer (or even otherwise)
Timings: 5 AM to 10 PM
Juhu Chowpatty, Juhu
If you're okay with the touristy crowd that's always there at the beach, then heading to this one could be one of your best decisions. The crowd's usually very excited here. Get your fam and friends along and cut as many kites as you can!
Timings: Go there as you like, except after 9 PM
P.S: In beaches, you could also head to the Girgaum Chowpatty or the Silver Beach extension in Versova
Priyadarshini Park, Malabar Hills
This seaside park is in the heart of SoBo, and is one of the most loved parks in the city. Not just because of its view but because it actually is well constructed.
Timings: 5 AM to 9 PM
TMC Garden, Thane
There are cute picnic benches, a special area for children to play, and walking paths for the early morning runners and joggers. This one in Thane, is so green and spacious, and perfect to fly kites at.
Timings: 7 AM to 7 PM
Pro-Tip
You could also head to a Kora Kendra on January 15 at 12 PM for their Kati Patang Festival. Passes will be available on the spot
