We're all pretty much pros at whipping up fly-by-the-seat-of-your-pants recipes on most days now. Open fridge, do a quick scan, toss in the pan and call it a day. But for those of us that like a little bit of prep, some help getting organised or maybe even trying out something new from time to time, this app's a good place to start.
Available on Android and iOs, BigOven is more than just recipes. It's a 3-in-1 app that combines menu planning, recipe hunting and grocery checklists all in one place. They've got a huge collection of recipes to browse through (over 350,000), create a meal plan for days, weeks or months, ideate your own recipes and get tips on how to make use of what you have in your own kitchen. We love that you can search the database to find a recipe suited to what you have available at hand by using their search feature.
Once you log in, you'll see multiple tabs: Get Ideas, My Recipes, Activity, Grocery List and Meal Planner. I searched for 'Spinach' and got tons of recipe options like Spinach Cheese Souffle, Quick Nuked Spinach, Sweet Potato Curry With Spinach & Chickpeas and tons more. Once you select a recipe, it gives you an estimated time, ingredients, preparation and nutrition information. Once you've made the recipe, you can even take a snapshot and save it to the app. All in all, quite enjoyed trying out the app. And if you are stuck for cooking inspiration, definitely give it a shot.
