Chenab is a rooftop, creek-facing dhaba in Vashi by the same people who run Ticca Tikka in Andheri West. Since Mumbai is devoid of the authentic dhabas, this one is as authentic as it gets.
Chenab may not be your regular off-the-mill dhaba but it has been done up in a way it gives off a dhaba vibe. The decor is as desi as it gets with settee seatings, colourful aka silk sheets everywhere and tall steel glasses. However, what makes the ambiance spectacular is its view which overlooks the creek. The food in comparison to a proper dhaba is a tad bit overpriced. But when it comes to the taste, they do get the Punjabi flavours all right. They have your murg tang tunwar, tawa chicken, achar wale kebabs and other hardcore Punjabi dishes. For the vegetarians, there’s your paneer kesari, tandoori salad, chole paneer adrak et al.
To cool off all the spices from the heavy dishes, go for their Lassi Patiala (served in proper Amritsari glasses), or chaas Patiala. They also have a bar for your fix of whiskey, or scotch. It’s a pretty cool place to chill post a long drive on the palm beach road. Get off the highway and into the dhaba as this place opens up post 6PM.
