Always wanted to dine at the Taj but the high prices scared you away? Fear no more – the iconic Taj Mahal Palace hotel restaurant Shamiana has reopened with a new menu and affordable prices.

Chow Down

Opened in 1973, Shamiana is one of the city’s iconic restaurants, Now, the look has been revamped and the restaurant has reopened. They are offering fresh home-style food with light and fresh dishes inspired by international and local flavours.

We are looking forward to their weekend brunches, as well as a daily menu curated by Italian chef Roberto Collini. Keep it local with the Via Bombay menu which includes kheema pav, prawn patio and pav bhaji. We are also excited about the Taj Autograph menu, which has signature dishes created by Taj chefs from across the world. Look out for the cobb salad from New York, fish and chips from London, or the chicken bunny chow from South Africa.

The biggest attraction, of course, are the prices, which are extremely affordable for the five-star hotel setting. The Via Bombay menu begins at INR 385, the Taj Autograph collection starts at INR 785, and a glass of wine starts at INR 285.

The prices are affordable, but the decor has the same old-world charm we’ve grown to associate with the Taj. The tent-look {It is called the Shamiana, after all}, the stone mandala, a Victorian-style iron jaali, and more details make it a very Instagram-happy outing.

So We’re Thinking…

The Taj is one of the city’s most beautiful venues for a meal or a quick coffee, and the Shamiana has been on Mumbai’s culinary landscape for decades. We’re very happy about the affordable pricing, which means that the Shamiana is now a great spot for us to catch up with friends, enjoy a quiet date, or spend an evening with a book without regretting it at the end. Plus, since it’s open day and night, add this to the short list of Mumbai joints to hit at 3am.

Price: INR 385 upwards for food, INR 250 upwards for drinks
