When it comes to traveling, Maharashtra as a State has a lot to offer, and a new airport in the Sindhudurg region is the bright, sparkling star we've all been waiting for.
The Sindhudurg Airport, in the Parule-Chipi area of the Konkan Coast, is all set to get inaugurated today by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Union Civil Aviation Minister Suresh Prabhu, according to this report. The 2,500 meter runway can handle single-aisle, narrow-body aircrafts, and is a new feather added to the travel cap.
In case you haven't been to Tarkali, a popular diving destination, or the gorgeous fort of Sindhudurg, this airport provides easy access to it. Getting to Goa also becomes a tad bit easier, since it's only 60 kilometers away from the airport. The number of flights and the routes, will be announced soon, as per sources. But a couple of low-cost flights will connect destinations in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. We're really hoping it opens up more places to visit in the State, and helps boost tourism!
Psst - There's also talks about a fishing industry and a horticultural agro-hub to be opened in Sindhudurg, as per this report.
