Astronomy enthusiasts, we’ve got a biggie for you! Wednesday, January 31, is when you get to see a total lunar eclipse in the city. Not just that, this one is extra special for all the reasons mentioned below.
It’s a cosmic event that hasn’t been witnessed in 36 years, where a rare ‘super blood blue moon’ will be visible for all to see. What makes it special is that it’s an astronomical trifecta that combines three major lunar events – a big super moon, a blue moon and a total lunar eclipse.
During the eclipse, the moon will slide into Earth’s shadow, slowly turning the white disk of light to orange or red. What makes this total eclipse unusual is that it is a rare sight also because of it being a blue moon.
In India, the January 31 lunar eclipse is predicted to start from 5:18 PM, the total eclipse will start at 6:21 PM and it will last till 7:37 PM.
Awestrich, a travel experience company in the city, along with Space Geeks, group of young researchers committed to giving value-added enrichment in astronomy and space science to enthusiasts, will conduct the observation and help guide the participants.
