World-Famous Composer Of Adiemus, Sir Karl Jenkins Performs His New Piece With The Symphony Orchestra of India In Mumbai

Aditi posted on 12th September

What Is It?

Welsh composer Sir Karl Jenkins, who was recently declared the most-performed living composer in the world, is all set to thrill the music enthusiasts of Mumbai at the NCPA, on September 22 and 23, and we cannot keep calm! Sir Karl is the acclaimed composer of Adiemus, which topped charts around the world. The highlight of this musical extravaganza is The Universe – originally commissioned by violinist Marat Bisengaliev and his Almaty Symphony Orchestra for Expo 2017 in Astana, Kazakhstan. This work is known to be a personal reflection of how Jenkins perceives the universe, with the choir, Living Voices Mumbai, singing in a language invented by him, using the voice as an instrument and not as a conveyor of a narrative. {Did anyone call for a living legend?}

Who Is It For?

Anyone and everyone who enjoys music and is open to experimentation. After all, who wouldn’t want to witness such an amazing concert?

Why Should I Go For It?

We’re talking about witnessing the world’s most-performed living composer LIVE! Hearing the music of a renowned composer whose style and integrity has transcended musical boundaries, is truly one of those unmissable moments that we dream of!

And if that wasn’t enough, the concert will also mark the premiere of The Universe in India with India being only the second country to hear this piece, following its premiere last month in Kazakhstan {lucky us}.

Anything Else?

Here’s a low-down on what else you can expect from this season:

On September 13, Polish conductor Jacek Kaspszyk, music director of the Warsaw Philharmonic Orchestra, will lead the SOI in a programme featuring rising-star cellist István Várdai in Dvořák’s cello concerto, arguably the most famous work in the genre.

Violinist Dan Zhu, widely recognised as one of the finest Chinese musicians on the international stage today, will join the SOI and Kaspszyk on September 17 to perform Korngold’s violin concerto.

The season closes on September 28, with a concert featuring the works of Beethoven and Mozart led by SOI Resident Conductor Evgeny Bushkov, with internationally-renowned pianist Stephen Hough, often regarded as one of the greatest living pianists.
