We have all seen those Instagram reels of people making hand-tufted rugs and coasters and have for sure slid into their DMs asking for prices. Morever, we'd be lying if we said that we've never wanted to try out hand at making them too. Well, now you can in Mumbai. All you need to do is head over to The Clumsy Studio in Prabhadevi, pick out your colours and designs, and get tufting.

Tufting is a modern approach to traditional rug-making, which is a rather easy and enjoyable process. In the workshop, all the necessary materials will be provided, and step-by-step guidance on tufting basics will be given for a stress-free experience.

Your design will be sketched onto the fabric beforehand. The workshop will commence with a lesson on how to use the tufting gun to shoot colourful yarn threads into the fabric canvas to create your design. You will have the opportunity to practice before working on your final piece. The tutors here will demonstrate how to tuft, starting from the bottom and working towards the top, so you can see the direction you're tufting. Once you are comfortable, you will start working on your main rug, which you will find surprisingly easy and, hopefully, a relaxing and creative experience. Throughout the workshop, the tutors will be available to assist you, ensuring that you finish on time to take your rug home. After tufting, you will cut out your piece, fold in the edges, and attach the backing fabric using special glue to complete your rug.

This is perfect for dates, anniversaries, birthdays, and solo dates. It promises to be a lot of fun at Prabhadevi. Your 3-hour tufting workshop will include all the materials needed for your rug. At the appointment time, the basic process will look something like this — first, you learn how to use a tufting gun, then choose from over 40 colours of yarn, and you tuft your masterpiece from your design (which must be sent at least 2 days before your class), and lastly, you will trim and shave your rug for the finishing touches. Here, expert tufters will guide you, and at the end of your workshop, you will leave with your very own handmade 30cm x 30cm rug!

LBB Tip: It is important to note that you will need to send them your design at least 24 hours before the start of your workshop and if your rug takes longer than the allotted 3 hours, they may charge an additional rate of INR 500/hour.

Prices: You can reserve tufting sessions on their website for INR 5,000 per rug, where they allow 2 people to work on it. Alternatively, you can choose separate sessions for you and your partner.
