Crafting the perfect plan for girls’ night out is a real task, isn’t it? We’ve pondered over where to go, when to go and what to wear for hours, and when the night does arrive, we’re more than likely to be disappointed by the bar/lounge we’ve chosen for this Sacred Soiree. While we reserve our glamazon getups for GNOs, we’ve wondered why we don’t have a space we can reserve for a great time, without the heaving crowds, without the need to “stick together” to be safe, and without, well, too many weird stags.
Here’s where Invincible swoops in, cape et al, to the rescue. “Boudoir” refers to the antiquated concept of a “powder room” where post-medieval women (only women!) met up for what we presume were sewing sessions, drinking tea, and well, general banter. Invincible does an intelligent take on the boudoir - imagine a place that says “ladies first” and means it, and is perfect for evenings when you’ve had it with crowded clubs, and you’d much rather sip on a well-balanced cocktail, paired flawlessly with conversation. They offer just that.
Invincible is replete with loveseats, comfy chaises and dim, soothing lighting, with a laidback, relaxed vibe. The decor exudes the same intimate feel. It’s warm and nostalgic but with a characteristic edge - all thanks to a huge painting that’s on the wall facing the bar. It’s a dream in red and blue, and supposedly signifies a woman in her truest form, unbridled and unconquerable. To us, it’s looking like this spot’s gonna be a (LIT AF) sanctuary of sorts for the ladies of Bombay.
And now, on to the chic cocktails. We tried a few of their signatures, and we gotta be honest - Madame Butterfly stole the show. Real talk, we’d fallen for her the moment she arrived, because we’re suckers for colourful cocktails. It’s blue, and it’s a gin-based cocktail with apricot brandy, matcha, and a floral honey foam. The matcha adds body to the drink, and cuts the sweetness that the brandy and honey foam bring to it. It’s magical.
The C’est La Vie is a gin and red wine-based drink with a Gentian reduction, blackberry preserves, lavender (*sharp inhale*) and citrus! The cheekily named Str Bck is crafted with Invincible vodka, some amazing cold brew coffee, 5-Spice cordial, with a surprising (yet delish) addition of salted coconut and chili. The final cocktail we sampled, the Detox Retox, was a mix of whiskey, coconut water, cucumber, and curry leaves. Though we found it to be oddly reminiscent of beer, we fell hard for the cucumber that really lends character to this one.
The food is a largely European and Pan-Asian. We started with the Wasabi Edamame Hummus (INR 350), served with baked Khakra, which enlightened us with the knowledge that wasabi ameliorates anything its paired with. It really brought that hummus to life! The Crispy Kale Papdi (INR 300) was reminiscent of spinach bhajiyas, but infinitely snazzier and refined with the mint yogurt espuma and tamarind glaze. We thought the Sriracha Tahina Cottage Cheese (INR 390) was a fun eat - we never would’ve imagined that Mediterranean and Thai food could reach a midpoint this delish. The Charcoal House Fries (INR 310) were great, but we didn’t think the charcoal did much for the flavour. We loved the rum + cheese sauce they were served with. We also sampled the Saffron and Yam Gilawat (INR 390), and it was all the melt-in-the-mouth we could ever ask for. Unbelievably soft, it served as a fitting bridge of sorts between the appetizers and the mains.
Being pretty full already from the “petit-faims”, we tried both the vegetarian mains the restaurant offers - the Vietnamese Buddha Bowl, and the Cottage Cheese Brisket, both will cost you INR 625. The Buddha Bowl’s porcini broth really tied the dish together, and we loved that the uber-soft tofu had a spicy crust. The Brisket is a fairly heavy main, and this was the first time we’ve seen orange marmalade paired with paprika.
To wind things up, we had the super light and fluffy Tiramisu (INR 590) and the Orange Zest and Cointreau Infused Flexi Ganache (INR 590). All in all, we’d recommend heading here for its unapologetically feminine vibe, the cocktails and tapas-style appetizers. Oh, and please don't miss the jardin part of Invincible - it's a lush Champagne Garden, an elegant outdoor space that's perfect for sundowners and pre-drinks, and we're smitten by the vertical garden as well. We think it'll be an experience in itself during the monsoons and the winters... So get here, stat!
