Let There Be Light: This Colaba Store Makes Hand-Stitched Lampshades Starting At Just INR 275

Colaba is a treasure full of hidden gems, if you look past the chaos. We did and found a shop that is reminiscent of a lost art.

    What Makes It Awesome

Fashion Parade has been humbly housing itself at Reay House, opposite The Taj Mahal Hotel since the 70s. Mr. Arif Shaikh has been running the establishment after his father passed on his legacy to him.

Mr. Shaikh sits at the shop along with his craftsmen, who are generally mired with the needle work on lamp shades. One of the oldest shops in the city that has retained the art of handmade lamp shades, they aren’t fans of the usually pasted ones. Here. the frame is made and then cloth is stitched on and every seam is taken care of.

The range starts at INR 275, going up to INR 4,500, depending on the size and intricacy of the work. Got a design in mind or off a board on Pinterest? You can show it here and they’ll replicate it for you.

Mr. Shaikh also keeps brass statues and lamp stands {you might want to check these out too} but his love for lamp shades is what he likes to focus on.
