We’ve always dreamed of staying in a treehouse since we read stories written by Enid Blyton as children. Now, thanks to a few individuals and companies, that help turning childhood dreams into reality. With stunning views, a treehouse experience gives something a high-rise in Mumbai will never provide - tranquillity, and time to reflect. Here are some of the treehouse resorts you can visit outside the city.

Amrutes’ Nisarga Sahavas, Dapoli

This treehouse resort is located in Maharashtra’s Ratnagiri district and has a number of activities to keep you busy like a 3-hour farm tour, a planting session for kids, harvesting fruits and vegetables and other local farming activities, and a bird-watching excursion. You can also engage in archery, rifle shooting and visit the Panhale Kaji ancient caves nearby.

The USP: A treehouse balanced perfectly on a banyan tree 25-feet above the ground. If this doesn’t entice you enough, they also have an organic farm that produces a variety of fruits and vegetables like mango, cashew, coconuts, kokam, jackfruit, banana, chiku and pineapples. Apart from this, the farm also grows spices such as cinnamon, bayleaf and nutmeg.

How to reach: Follow the Mumbai-Goa Highway (NH 17). Turn right at Lonere phata and pass Mandangad to reach Dapoli.

Tiger 'N' Woods, Pench Tiger Reserve, District Seoni

Tiger ‘N’ Woods is located in a village called Avarghani. The resort is strategically located on the edge of the national park and is surrounded by Mahua trees, which serves as a lovely gallery for viewing wildlife.

The USP: The resort is located just on the edge of the jungle comprising of 10 charming, all wooden stand-alone machaans which give the real feel of the jungle once you get in. The facilities they offer are jungle safaris, nature walks, bird watching, star gazing and night safaris.  Another advantage of this place is that you are isolated from any internet connection, so you have no contact. 

How to reach: Nagpur is the nearest airport connected to Delhi & Mumbai and other places by regular flights. Jabalpur (192 kms.) also serves as a convenient airhead with regular flights from Delhi. 

Distance: Approximately 115 km from Nagpur.

Sajan Nature Club, Thane

A 35-acre property designed for people who love the outdoors, Sajan Nature Club is known for its AC treetop and cocoon rooms. Apart from this, they also have multiple huts, dormitories and a tented campsite, a swimming pool with an artificial waterfall and their own vegetable garden where you can pick up your own stock.

How to reach: One can drive down the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway i.e. the Western Express Highway to reach Sajjan.

The Machan, Jambulne, near Lonavala

An exclusive eco-resort with tree houses rising 30-45 feet above the forest, The Machan offers you the perfect chance to connect with nature and enjoy the outdoors. How to reach: Situated a mere two and a half hours drive from Mumbai (one and a half hours from Pune), this makes for an exceptionally accessible weekend getaway and encourages you to take some time away from work.

O'Nest Homestay, Devrukh

While this one's not exclusively known for their treehouses, they've got an exclusive space in their garden area for multiple treehouses. 

USP: Located in the Devrukh district of Maharashtra, this property if known to offer an amazing Konkan culture experience. Expect authentic dishes like fish fry, prawns fry, misal pav and also activities like bullock ride, mango plucking etc. 

How To Reach: The ideal way to get there is via a direct train or bus to Sangameshwar (nearest station). Since it's pretty far, we'd say avoid a drive.

Distance From Mumbai: 313 kms from Mumbai. Yep, it's far! 

Cost: INR 1,500 per night for double occupancy (meals are not included)
