Aurora Talkies is one of the last single screen theatres in the city. But, that’s not what it’s known for.

What Is It?

Have you ever witnessed madness? No, we don’t mean your run for the local or the crowd outside a mall hosting a sale. Want to know what real madness is? Ask Thalaiva fans. Aurora may be like another single screen but when a Rajinikanth movie is set to release, it turns into a carnival of sorts.

Think a 52-foot tall cutout of the actor towering over, offerings in the form of aarti {yep}, frenzied fans often taking to dancing in front of the screen and people distributing packets of food to the needy. All of this, for a movie release. Whenever a Rajini movie releases, shows start as early as 6am.

Interestingly, the space was the hub of English classics for the first four decades of its existence. It was established in the year 1942. Nambi Rajan, the owner of Aurora Talkies has planned to shut it after Sivaji’s release but the fact that only Aurora can show Rajini’s movies the way it does, it stays. And thank god for that.

So, We're Saying...

Experience what the madness is all about at the next release? We’re so up for it.
